Google has announced that it will discontinue the chat function in Google Business Profiles from July 15, 2024; with the full feature shutting down on July 31.
This news has come as a surprise to businesses as GBP allows them to enhance their online presence across Google services.
It means Google will not allow new chats and will also shut down the chat and call history functionality from July 31, 2024.
Google circulated this update to businesses via email which reads:
“We are reaching out to share that we will be winding down Google’s chat and call history features in Google Business Profile on July 31, 2024. We acknowledge this may be difficult news – as we continually improve our tools, we occasionally have to make difficult decisions that may impact the businesses and partners we work with. It’s important to us that Google remains a helpful partner as you manage your business and we remain committed to this mission.”
July 14, 2024: Users cannot initiate new chats with your business from Google Search or Google Maps. But those already in the existing chat will get a notification about this new update.
July 31, 2024: Google will end the chat and call history features permanently in Google Business Profile. So you’ll stop receiving new chat messages and call history will also be inaccessible.
Google is ending the chat features to streamline its offerings. The search engine giant has two suggestions for businesses:
Download the chat and call histories with Google Takeout.
Invite customers to alternative chat platforms to avoid any hassles.

Businesses need to take necessary actions to remain unimpacted with the shutdown of these features. Make sure to download chat and call history before July 31 to archive the data in your database.
